Here are a few dates for your calendars, in addition to our regular Monday Balboa Classes at the Jazz Cafe, Madejski Stadium and our regular Tuesday Swing Dance Classes at the Reading Canoe Club. Hope to see you at some of them.

Thursday 11 March
Nicky’s Cambell’s Swing Band at the Jazz Cafe, Madejski Stadium, Shooters Way, Reading RG2 OFL
This ‘Swing’ collaborative joins together some of the finest musicians in the country, playing hits from their highly acclaimed ‘Moonlight’s Back in Style’ album They are inspired by the music of Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Big Band music in general, so it should be a good night out.
Starts about 8.30 pm
Entrance £15/head (Limited number of dining tickets available which guarantee seating and a choice of 2 courses from their 3 course menu – priced at £35.00)

Balboa Bonanza - BUT WITH A DIFFERENCE
Beginners Classes from 12 noon until 1.45 pm as usual at the Reading Canoe Club
Intermediate session starts at 2.00 pm (1/2 hour earlier than usual) until 4.00 pm
The prices will be £3.00 for just the beginners class & £5.00 for the intermediate. Those attending both £7.00

We will NOT be providing a tea dance as we have been invited to attend a Live Music and Tea Dance Event at the Muse Bar, 5-6 Friar Street Reading, RG1 1DB.
This event actually starts at 2.30 with a Charleston class, but we will join it for the social dancing and tea and cakes part. The event will go on into the early evening.
Entrance £7.00 (includes complementary pot of tea and cake)/(complementary glass of wine if you order a Sunday roast)
There is cheap parking - £3.00 all day - at the Garrard Street Car Park, RG1 1NR, an easy 3-4 minutes walk away

The Reading Canoe Club will be closed for redecoration for a week, commencing Monday 22 Febraury. Therefore we are very sorry, we cannot hold our class on Tuesday 23 February. Classes will resume as normal on Tuesday 2 March.

Hi Everyone

After a lot of consideration, we’ve decided to cancel the following classes:-

Monday balboa class at the Jazz Cafe, Madejski Stadium on Monday 11 January
Tuesday swing dance class at the Reading Canoe Club on Tuesday 12 January.

The roads around both locations are still treacherous and with the forecast of more sleet and snow to come and freezing temperatures, we have decided to err on the side of caution.

Hope you are not too disappointed and we look forward to seeing you all at classes next week - Monday 18 January and Tuesday 19 January.

All Jazzed Up are holding a six-week course in basic Balboa in the lovely setting of the Jazz Cafe at the Madejski Stadium, situated just off the M4 motorway at junction 11 (RG2 0FL),

The evening begins with a basic balboa class for beginners from 8.30 pm until 9.15 pm and continues with social swing dancing until 10.30 pm

Doors open 8.15 pm. Class will start promptly at 8.30 pm

Price £6.00 for class and social dancing
£3.00 for just social dancing (arriving after 9.15 pm)

Just a little reminder that Balboa Bonanza starts back this Sunday – 6 September.
Beginners/improvers Balboa from 12 noon to about 1.45 pm.
Intermediate and above balboa from 2.30 pm until 4.30 pm (ish)
Tea (coffee), cakes and dancing until 6pm.
Prices are £3.00 for just the morning, £5.00 for just the afternoon and £7.00 for the whole day.

The workshops will be aimed at intermediate dancers and above.

As this is holiday time, we will keep the bookings open for about a fortnight. I will be in touch to let you know if you have a place when I return from Studio Hop Summer Camp in Eauze w/c 10 August 2009.

As usual, it would help greatly if leads and follows could book together, but single followers – please don’t be dissuaded from applying, we will carry some extra followers at the event.

Arrival & Reception

On arrival please report to our reception desk in the entrance foyer which will be manned from 9.00am onwards. Workshops will start promptly at 10.00am.

There are plenty of parking spaces in the car park outside the Calcot Centre and there is an overflow car park a short distance away.

Our evening DJs are Mel Calanglang and Brian Anthony of Dan’s Friday class fame and we will try and entice a couple of guests to do a slot too. This is our regular monthly balboa session at the Reading Canoe Club, The Warren, Caversham, RG4 7TH.
Beginners/Improvers 12 noon until 1.45 pm
Intermediates and above 2.30 pm until 4.30 pm (but those attending earlier are welcome to stay and practise)
Dancing, tea/coffee and cakes from 4.30 pm until 6.00 pm (please note the later finish time, by popular request).

Any AJU member who would like to make a donation – any amount would be gratefully received. All the money will go to the Alexander Devine Children’s Cancer Trust – a charity working to help child cancer suffers in Berkshire and ultimately provide a hospice in the county – amazingly, Berkshire does not have a hospice.

This coming Saturday, 14 March, ASHLEY STONE is singing at THE CURZON. CONSERVATIVE CLUB. 362 Oxford road, Reading, Berkshire , RG30 1AQ Tel: 0118 9590 981. Those of you who came along to our Xmas Party will (I hope) remember what a great singer he is and how easy the music is to dance to.

The Curzon is a private “members only” club, but they are happy to allow members of All Jazzed Up entry to the event for £1.00/head. There is a bar and a beautiful dance floor. A number of us will be going along, so it would be good if some of you could come along too, just mention me or All Jazzed up, or just say you’ve come along to dance! We will get there for around 8.30 pm. The Curzon Club is right next to the new (ish) Tesco’s on the Oxford Road on the site of the old Battle Hospital. The Club has an agreement with Tesco to allow people attending the club to park in Tesco’s car park. I think you have to enter the car park via Portman Road.
